Glossary

LAN: Local Area Network. This term is used for smaller networks, e.g. an enterprise network, which are clearly defined by their borders (e.g. buildings).
Linux: A Unix like Open Source operating system developed by Linus Torvalds. Linux has been ported to most modern computer hardware and is capable of interfacing to most of the known file systems and network protocols. A Linux distribution consists of the Linux kernel itself, various system programs and a collection of user level applications.
